UFC american PRIDE japanese Pride had much less strict rules. Head stomps and knees to downed oppenents were allowed. PRIDE was fought in a ring and not an octogon cage. Pride had a 10 minute opening round. PRIDE also had open weight tournoments called Grand Prix's where fighters of all weight classes would fight. (middleweight Dan Henderson fighting heavyweight Big NOG) The point system is also different with more emphasis on aggression and less on ring controll. Pride also would aloow people to compete in other competions and companys.

The main difference between Pride and the UFC is that UFC allows elbows and Pride does not, on the other hand Pride allows kicks and knees to the head of a downed opponent and UFC does not. also Pride is mainly in Japan whereas UFC is in all parts of the world like Canada, America, and soon enough Abu Dabi.

Hmmm? Pride tended to have more of a professional wrestling approach to it's match making, ring entrances, and presentation while UFC just goes ahead and plays the fight. Pride has a ring and UFC an eight sided cage. Pride rules allowed foot stomps, 12-6 elbows, kicks to the head of downed opponent, and fights between two people of entirely different weight classes. Pride had a lot more asian fighters in its roster. UFC fighters are mostly American. In Pride the fans in the arena were a lot more respectful and even cheered when someone passed someones guard. UFC fans in the arena are usually drunk. The weight classes were different for example Middle Weight was the Light Heavyweight division. Pride scored the fight as a whole while UFC uses a point system.

The differences between the two were very varied and the list is pretty long. I recommend you go to a website like MMALinker and post this question to get better results.

Ufc-American Pride- Jappanses UFC more of a grapplers chance, 8 sided cage..grapplers can dominate more easily and fights are never started back in the center..the cage allows however a easier chance for you to stand up with your back against the cage however due to the cage and such grapplers can have it better.. UFC- allows elbows to opponents and on the ground as long as they are not i belive 90 degrees or something of that nature they cannot come straight down with a point.. UFC- doesnt restart fights back to the center as pride does Pride- is more leniant with rules and does not drug test their athelettes * many people are on steroids * steroids does not mean better fighter, just more strength and muscle and such * pride has the grand prix, open weight class fights between people * pride was known for clown circus type fights, bob sapp 370 pound huge guy vs say 200 pound or less asian guy * pride Allowed Soccer kicks and Stomps to opponents head and knee's to an opponents head and allowed spikes, you could slam someone on their head spike them * pride rules favor strikers as they can soccer kick you and knee you in the head and stomp you when you shoot in for a takedown. * Pride had some of the top best fighters and so did the UFC UFC- had more fighters Pride- had more average fighters UFC- fighters got paid more the big stars at least did and all fighters were said to be in the top 1% of all fighters on earth and in MMA for a fact they were in the top 1% .. Pride- didnt have the top 1% of all fighters in the unvierse/ world, however had a few of the best not a ton for all weight classes but some of the best Rampage jackson shogun rua wanderlei silva murlio rua big nog fedor heath hearing mark hunt seemy schlit UFC top fighters were Chuck Liddell randy couture vitor belfort george st pierre bj penn rich franklin matt hughes kevin randleman-before going to pride mark coleman-before going to pride was in the ufc for a long time renato babalu the UFC tends to have fighters cut if they cannot compete in the top 1% of fighters that are in the top % of fighters this is to as why some fighters who have been in the UFC are no longer in the UFC or were cut either because of management issues or continued lack luster performances and not a huge fan draw, but at that their are thousand a few or so thousand ufc fighters most are not huge draws but perform and take the job some fighters andre arlovski and tim sylvia or kevin randleman or mark coleman have been good just have had issues or decided to leave or in andreas' case lost a lot than just left

The other posters covered the rules pretty well. There are other things that really set Pride apart from other promoters. First of all, the Japanese did business in a very shady way. Fighters like Wanderlie took fights on just a few days notice at times when the promoter and the other fighter knew what was going to happen. There was also very little drug testing.... There was also a lot of freak matches. Huge guys would fight smaller guys all the time. Granted it was exiting as hell.... but the Nevada state athletic commission would have none of that. In my opinion the entire display and spirit was just phenomenal. Bigger crowds, more exiting fights, bigger venues, more hype.. it was just amazing.
